Memory must inhibit the retrieval of irrelevant information and offer up the piece of information relevant to the query. When inhibition is lacking, it floods you with irrelevant information and distractions, all with the same priority. Perhaps the basic deficit in ADHD/autism when it comes to memory and failure to prioritize is lack of inhibitory control?
